Matt Redman comes to Wayfest

This month South Floridians have the opportunity to see Christian singer, songwriter and author, Matt Redman, who is currently touring around the United States with Casting Crowns. He will be performing at Wayfest on Nov. 14 at the Cruzan Amphitheater with BarlowGirl, DecembeRadio, Superchick, VOTA, Sarah Reeves, Sevenglory and, of course, Casting Crowns. Redman, whose most popular hits include, “Blessed Be Your Name,” “Better Is One Day” and “Heart of Worship,” calls his current tour “refreshing.” “So far, this tour is great. Woman births child wrongly implanted

An Ohio woman gave birth to a baby boy she carried to term after learning a fertility clinic had mistakenly implanted her with another couple’s embryo. Carolyn Savage, 40, of Sylvania, Ohio, delivered a 5-pound, 3-ounce boy at a Toledo hospital after choosing not to abort him though she learned he was not her son 10 days after embryo implantation. The boy’s genetic parents are Paul and Shannon Morell of Troy, Mich., who learned a day after Savage and her husband Sean about the embryo mix-up by an undisclosed clinic. They were concerned their unborn child would be aborted after […]

Unaware of child sex-trafficking problem

Most Americans, including far too many government officials, have no idea that children under the age of 18 are being shipped from state to state as child prostitutes, according to a report from an anti-sex trafficking organization. In fact, an estimated 100,000 American children under 18 years of age are victimized through prostitution every year and children rented for sex acts might be raped 6,000 times over the course of five years. In addition, the United States should be – but is not – listed on the “Tier 2” watch list in the State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report. Those […]

A Teachable Moment on Communist China

When I first heard it, I didn’t believe it. Alas, it’s true. A few weeks ago, New York City’s Empire State Building was aglow in red and yellow. Why? To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the victorious revolution of the People’s Republic of China – i.e., the establishment of Mao’s Red China. I’m not kidding. This took place not in Beijing, or Pyongyang Havana or, say, Moscow in the 1950s. It was done in New York City, in 2009, at its highest building, the very symbol of the Empire State. In effect, New Yorkers basked in the glow of a […]

Couple retires to the Canary Islands

Passersby hardly notice the mosque on this active street corner on the Spanish island of Fuerteventura. No crescent moons, no Arabic writing, no minarets piercing the sky – only dust and exhaust-stained apartments. But looks can be deceiving. Behind a black metal door, stairs descend to what appears to be an old three-bedroom apartment. At the foot of the stairs stands a floor-to-ceiling shoe shelf. To the left is a trough with two water spigots where followers wash their feet in preparation for Friday prayers. The air is still and hot at the mosque in Fuerteventura, one of the Canary […]

Christians jailed in Cuba

Cuban authorities say two Baptist leaders held in jail for 11 days in a city on the eastern end of the island are suspected of illegal economic activities. Associated Baptist Press first reported Oct. 13 that Ruben Ortiz-Columbie, coordinator for special projects of the Eastern Cuba Baptist Convention, and Francisco “Pancho” Garcia, director of the convention’s teen department, had been arrested Oct. 3 and held without formal charge since then. They were being held in the city of Santiago de Cuba. The following day El Nuevo Herald, the Spanish-language sister paper of The Miami Herald, reported that Ortiz, 68, and […]

‘Ardi’ ape simply disproves missing link

A “prehuman” fossil that some scientists claim gives new insight into human origins is likely nothing more than the remains of an ape and does not support evolutionary theory, scientists at Answers in Genesis say. Answers in Genesis, the Christian Life which runs the Creation Museum near Cincinnati, Ohio, posted an analysis of the scientific find on its Web site, saying that the “Ardi” female fossil – which is short for Ardipithecus ramidus and which evolutionary scientists say is 4.4 million years old – poses no more threat to creationist belief than past fossils have. “Given the number and scope […]

Joyner: God’s ‘Unbelievable’ creation

Gene Joyner is an example of a man who bloomed where he was planted. The nationally-known horticulturist lovingly cultivated the land where he grew up and also single-handedly created Florida’s only rainforest. The lush tropical landscape Joyner created, called Unbelievable Acres Botanical Gardens, started out in 1970 as two and a half acres of empty cow pasture holding only two pine trees. Joyner’s family owned the land, and he was raised in a home close to the field. When asked why he started a rainforest in South Florida, Joyner answered, “I just love the rainforest. I looked forward to my […]
