Brides Against Breast Cancer

Brides Against Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit that tours the country creating exciting bridal events that serve a very “Pink Purpose.” Event proceeds fund free programs and services for people who are impacted by cancer nationwide through www.healthsupportnetwork.org. Their Nationwide Tour of Gowns will make a “tour stop” in Miami on August 22nd & 23rd at The Shops at Sunset , 5701 Sunset Drive in South Miami. Sistrunk Parade and Street Festival

The Sistrunk Parade and Sistrunk Street Festival, on February 28, celebrates the accomplishments of people of African descent with fun family activities. The parade begins at 9 a.m. at Mt. Big Bands & Movies Presentation

The program will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. The Big Bands ruled the entertainment universe during the Swing Era, and Hollywood quickly moved them front and center in a number of movies during the 1930s and 40s. During this lecture, Novek will highlight the lives and careers of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey. These celebrated leaders not only led their Big Bands, they also performed as actors in the movies. Upcoming lectures will highlight Glen Miller, Harry James, Xavier Cugat and Duke Ellington.

Covenant Village of Florida and the Nova Southeastern University Lifelong Learning Institute offer monthly lectures on a variety of topics, including art, music, literature, philosophy, history, politics, current events, science and health care. Expert NSU visiting faculty and faculty members lead each lecture.
