The program will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Local author and Haitian art collector Candice Russell will share her love and knowledge of the Haitian culture and art. She’s been collecting Haitian art for more than 30 years, and last year published “Masterpieces of Haitian Art,” a book highlighting a collection of vibrant Haitian media, including metal sculptures using recycled items, sculptures in wood, papier-mâché, paintings and Vodou flags. During her lecture she’ll discuss the various genres within Haitian art and explain how she became such an avid collector. She’ll also share stories about her travels to Haiti.
Russell worked as a theater critic for the Miami Herald for seven years, and a film critic for the Sun-Sentinel for 14 years. She’s curated local and national museum shows on Haitian art.
Covenant Village of Florida is located at 9215 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation, Fla. The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information or to RSVP, please call 877-670-0889 or visit www.CovenantFlorida.org.
