Rewrite the Ending

Lost too soon This month was painful as we mourn the loss of two exceptionally creative artisans in Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. The public is honoring Kate Spade by posting remembrances of their first Kate Spade purse. Personally, Kate Spade is the first designer outfit and bag I bought for my girls as they stepped into adulthood. As a foodie, Bourdain was one of my all-time favorites. I identified so closely with him in his love of culture and the foods that define them and fuse us together as humans. I’ve always said that if ministry weren’t my calling, […]

Dressing for Your Body Type

So many women live their lives envying other women’s body types  while hating their own. When you learn to embrace your own curves (or lack thereof) and dress for your body type, confidence inevitably follows. There are four main body shapes: hourglass, triangle, circle and rectangle. Women with each of these body types can find ways to accentuate the parts of their bodies that they love and minimize those that they do not. Hourglass The hourglass body shape has curves in the chest and hips while having a small waist.  Wrap dresses work excellently with this body type; they are […]

Products with a Purpose

Charities have been around for ages, but there is a movement in the non-profit sector that is stepping away from the basic model of aid. Instead, these organizations are combining social justice with relevant products for the betterment of individuals in developing nations. Started largely by twenty-somethings who wanted to work for good beyond themselves, there are a handful of non-profits that are creating sustainable relationships abroad, teaching people trade skills that help them stand on their own two feet. Because of the long-term conflict in central Africa, many of these organizations have focused their work in that region, as […]

10 Tips On How to Dress Like a Man

While running shoes are great for a vigorous workout, there is really no need for these shoes to be worn beyond that. For casual situations, moccasins or canvas shoes (think Vans or Converse) work well. A pair of leather shoes, especially in a caramel-y brown (so they can be paired with black, navy, gray and a darker brown), are extremely versatile. Not only do they work in formal settings but they can even dress up a pair of dark-wash jeans. You don’t need 20 different pairs of shoes to dress like a man but you do need more than running […]

What Your Personal Style Says About You

Every person in this world has a unique story, something to share with the world. We often share this story through words, telling of experiences and sharing anecdotes, and some people even write down what they’ve been through. Other people stuff their stories away, trying to appear as neutral and “normal” as possible. But through expression of ourselves, we have the freedom to say who we are and tell a bit of our lives. Words aren’t always necessary, however. Sometimes we can express just as much by what we wear. A person’s clothing style can say a lot about who […]

From the Runway to Your Closet

Fashion weeks have ended in cities around the globe and many are left wondering how to translate what was shown on the runways into everyday, wearable outfits. Outfits shown on the runway are often exaggerated versions of the style they are portraying. When taking a cue from these fashions, choose only one piece to portray at a time, so as not to overwhelm the outfit. Instead of wearing […]
