Students Learn a Financial Goal Without an Action Plan ‘Is Just a Wish’

These are exciting times at Palm Beach Atlantic University, as we review architects’ plans for the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Business Building. Our excitement rises even higher when we consider how the new building will allow us to expand impactful business programs and courses taught by engaging professors such as Barbara VanderWerf. “Professor VanderWerf is one of my favorites,” said finance major Emily Kintz. “I just really love her teaching style. She’s very focused on making connections with each student individually.” Emily, a senior, had enjoyed several courses under Barbara, who is assistant professor of management. Now, in her […]

Supporting Families Helps Prevent Child Abuse

You know those stories you look back on and can so clearly see the hand of God moving? In the midst of these kinds of stories, we typically have no idea the kind of impact divine timing and simple obedience can have. As we enter Child Abuse Prevention Month this April, I can’t help but think of the lives that have been touched through the heart of prevention.    Divine meetings I am sure you’ve had one of these “unplanned” meetings that you look back on so clearly as God’s orchestrating something divine. That’s what happened when I first met […]

Pray For Nashville

On Monday morning the Nashville community was turned upside down as we witnessed the horror at The Covenant School, a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Many of you know that this church is a part of our denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America. Our hearts break for the victims’ families that are understandably grieving and shocked. We stand with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ as they deal with this tragedy, including Senior Pastor Chad Scruggs who lost his nine-year-old daughter. Shortly after the shooting he shared these words expressing his hope in the gospel, “Through tears we trust […]

Lose the Bunny; Use the Eggs

The most significant holiday on the Christian calendar is once again upon us. This special day, however, is so clouded by cultural tradition, that many church attendees have forgotten what they are to celebrate. One woman went so far as to say to me, “I can’t possibly imagine getting up at the crack of dawn and coming to a sunrise service at a stadium, park or beach for an Easter service. I would not be able to get dressed up!” Generations of wearing the right clothes have worn down the meaning of Easter in the hearts of many. It is […]

Why Should My Company “Outsource” A General Counsel?

The Good News provides a monthly column with important content having to do with topics from the legal community. This month’s offering features a conversation with Matthew Zifrony, a director with Tripp Scott who practices in the areas of entrepreneurial business, commercial real estate, and condominium and HOA. Bill Davell: What is the role of a general counsel and why does my company need one? Matthew Zifrony: You could think of a general counsel in the same way you view your primary care physician: she or he has responsibility for and oversees all aspects of your company’s or organization’s legal […]

Gigi Graham Tchividjian on God’s Faithfulness to Their Legacy Family

Conversing with Author and Speaker Virginia “Gigi” Graham Tchividjian is like being transported to a cozy cottage in the mountains of North Carolina, where “mother” and “daddy” raised her and her four younger siblings on Southern manners and blackberry cobbler. “They call me Mama G,” she said, fondly referring to her 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The matriarch of “the first family of faith,” Gigi is the daughter of the late Rev. Billy Graham, the world’s best-known evangelist who prayed with U.S. presidents and foreign dignitaries and preached at large evangelical crusades worldwide. However, Gigi said she has lived in […]

The Known and Unknown Sower

As many of you know, I don’t consider myself a writer, so every month I ask God to show me what He wants me to write about. I always need Him to show me because I don’t have chapters of quality thoughts rolling around in my head. This was particularly true for me this month. He responded with the same message, the Sower of Seeds.   A simple invitation Live the Life South Florida hosted our Happy & Together Hoedown this past weekend, and at the end of the evening, someone spoke up about the number of people the ministry […]

Power of Attorney is a Powerful Way to Protect Your Interests

The Good News provides a monthly column with important content having to do with topics from the legal community. This month’s offering features a conversation with Jeff Fauer, a Tripp Scott director, who focuses his practice in estate, trust and complex, commercial litigation. A power of attorney is a time-tested way to provide peace of mind that your personal, financial and legal affairs are kept in order, and your interests and intentions respected and carried out, in contexts ranging from business to healthcare. But it’s important to understand what a power of attorney is and how it works to ensure […]

Mental Health: A Growing Concern That Needs Faith and Counseling

In the past, most people took mental health for granted or ignored it altogether. In fact, the stigma behind it was that if you suffered with mental health issues, something was wrong with you – you were weak, unstable and almost contagious! People were pitied, ridiculed, shamed and misunderstood. Yet, COVID has brought mental health to the forefront.  Mental health, the next spiritual battle? Many issues have arisen from the consequences of this virus. It changed our way of life, it changed our thinking, and it changed us. In my practice I see many more people struggling with anxiety, grief […]

Marriage Drift

It’s not uncommon for couples to find their relationship in a place where they believe they’ve grown apart. They haven’t really “grown” apart. They’ve slowly drifted away from one another. It’s not unlike mission drift. Marriage drift, like mission drift, unfolds slowly with seemingly insignificant decisions. Like a lazy river, the current is slow, usually goes unnoticed, and certainly doesn’t create an alarm. We mindlessly drift. But as life changes, such as children, a new job, relocating, losses, etc., many couples find themselves off course, in choppy, uncharted waters with no provisions or paddle.  Many couples marry with the expectation […]
