The Freedom Challenge to Combat Modern Day Slavery

Four years ago, forty-eight women from seven different countries gathered to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to declare freedom for victims of human trafficking. What started out in 2012 as a mountain climb has now expanded into a movement. Once known as the “Freedom Climb” made on behalf of victims of human trafficking and slavery, the new “Freedom Challenge” has expanded Operation Mobilization’s (OM) goal to include all types of physically challenging events in order to raise funds and awareness to the great social injustice of oppressed and enslaved women and children all around the world. “The goal of the Freedom Challenge […]

Ron Blue Offers Advice on Faith and Finances

Born shortly after Pearl Harbor, Ron Blue, director of Kingdom Advisors, admits he’s witnessed a great deal of economic fluctuation throughout history from the Korean War to the Cuban Missile Crisis, Watergate to the inflation of the 80’s, 9/11 and the Iraq War followed by recession. Speaking at a Lifework Leadership class last month, Blue said that for many, wages don’t keep up with lifestyles as there is a desire for keeping up with the Joneses, and that creates financial pressure. However there are a few key things he said he’s learned over the years.   First, economic uncertainty is […]

Life is Big News

In many ways, we are obsessed with the topic of life. Need proof that life is big news? Pick up a newspaper and see how many stories are about life, or more specifically, the loss of life. In recent days, most of us have sat in front of our televisions and watched in horror as reports of mass shootings, terrorist attacks and other senseless murders played across the screen. Why do we have a fascination with watching these stories unfold? I believe it is because we all realize that when a life is lost, our world loses something of intrinsic […]

Religious Freedom Day Affirms Freedom of Worship

As in years past, the White House is expected to proclaim January 16 as Freedom of Religion Day. The day is the anniversary of the passage, in 1786, of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom. Regardless of what is said, most Christians believe there has been an erosion of their rights for some time. One of the biggest threats has been Obamacare, which threatened to violate the rights of at least two family-owned businesses, Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties. The Alliance Defending Freedom saw the threat and successfully defended the case at the Supreme Court for the two businesses. […]

Establishing Healthy Habits

The New Year offers each of us a chance to forget the old and move forward into the new. I am not a great fan of New Year’s resolutions, but I fervently believe in writing down our goals and reviewing them regularly. I encourage you to write out your goals for 2016, including those for your personal health, and then periodically check in to see how you are doing. “For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing” (Jeremiah 31:25 NLT). Our habits determine the patterns of our lives We know that life is short. The […]

Necessary Endings for New Beginnings

This time of year most people are starting things new: fitness programs, a new diet or health plan, starting new relationships or drawing closer to God. New commitments, fresh motivation and renewed resolutions take place all over the world as we start a new year. Of course, I have a few of my own as always; we all do. One thing I’m reminded of and keep forgetting is that necessary endings have to happen in order to be able to start new things or to allow room for new things to take place.   Biblical endings The Bible references pruning, […]
