Explorer Program Gives Youth a Taste of Public Service

Imagine you are a police officer. It’s late at night and you’ve just pulled over a suspicious vehicle. As you and your partner approach the car, you must analyze and decide your next move in milliseconds. Suddenly, the driver jumps out of the car and approaches you shouting that he “wasn’t speeding.” As you firmly ask the driver to sit back in his car, the front passenger steps out and pushes past your partner. As your partner commands him to get back in the car, the passenger abruptly turns towards you and reaches for a dark object in his pocket. […]

The Wrong Kind of Fireworks

If I said, “fireworks” and “marriage,” would you think of a euphoric feeling that overflows from your effervescent love-life? Unfortunately for many couples, marital fireworks may be anger explosions and bitter fighting. Have you ever found yourself doing any or all of these when you fight? Saying “you never …” or “you always …” Humiliating Yelling Threatening divorce Using force Blaming Abandoning Playing the martyr/victim Interrupting These are all symptoms of dirty fighting – the conflict style that wounds instead of builds.   Who wins? There is always one winner of a dirty fight – Satan. His goal is to […]

Support Swells for Christian Family in Norway After Authority Seizes Children

(WNS)–When Marius and Ruth Bodnariu sent their daughters off to school one day last fall, they had no idea they would not come home. And they certainly never imagined their three sons would also be gone before the next sundown — all five children seized by the Norwegian government because of their parents’ Christian beliefs. Tens of thousands of citizens across the globe have joined in protesting the Norwegian Child Welfare Agency’s seizure of the children after a school principal reported their parents for “indoctrinating” their children. The Bodnariu family lives in Naustdal, Norway, where Marius works as an IT […]

Going Up to Jerusalem

The city of Jerusalem is the highlight of any pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It is not just a city that has some 4,000 years of history, making it one of the oldest cities on earth, but it is mentioned 806 times in the Bible with names as beautiful as “City of God,” “Joyful City” and “Desired One.” Jerusalem in Hebrew is Yerushalayim and is often translated as “City of Peace.” It is situated on the southern Judean plateau, which at its highest point is 2,500 feet above sea level. St. Valentine, a Man who Stood Firm

Romance, candy, cards and dates are, to many in our culture, what Valentine’s Day is all about. As children, many remember making valentine mailboxes or bags and bringing valentines for the other children in the class. Wives and girlfriends often expect a special date or treat from their husbands or boyfriends on this day and complain to the guy who doesn’t come through. The reason for the connection between the first Saint Valentine and the romantic side of life is a story in itself, one of a true believer who stood for the right to marry in a culture that […]

Choosing from a Smorgasbord of Beliefs

One of the belief systems that is becoming popular in some Christian circles and some churches attempting to be inclusive and relevant is the concept of Cafeteria Christianity. This suggests that one is free to pick and choose which of the essential Christian doctrines to believe, as one chooses the food he or she likes from the smorgasbord line at the local cafeteria on a Sunday morning. While some may choose to reject the Virgin birth of Christ as essential to their Christianity or discount the stories of miracles or reject the accounts of Creation and a worldwide flood as […]

Battle for Our Nation at the Polls

Another election year is upon us. With so many big issues in play, there is a lot at stake. And much of the battle will be fought in the primaries. For the most part, the die will be cast at that time. But many Christians too often choose to sit on the sidelines. Some are not even registered to vote. What kind of a world are they leaving for their children, grandchildren, and neighbors? I remember seeing a bumper sticker on a car with Christian bumper stickers that said something like, “Why vote? It’s all rigged anyway.” Something to that […]

Speak Their Love Language

Everyone wants to be loved and this is the month when our minds and hearts focus on relationships. People talk about falling into and out of love. They wonder, “Why can’t it always be the way it was in the beginning when we first fell in love?” Once that emotional high, known as the infatuation stage, wears off they often feel the relationship is over. This phase of love usually lasts around two years and is greatly affected by our brain chemistry. Our thoughts are obsessing on the person and this is why it is hard to focus on anything […]
