Avanti Way Partners with TECHO to end poverty

Overcoming extreme poverty is an everyday struggle for millions of families; however, more than 80,000 volunteers work with TECHO to change these conditions every year. Founded in 1997 in Chile, TECHO is now present in 19 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean where it has worked with more than 670 communities aiming to permanently eradicate poverty. Luciana Neveleff & Maria Gabriela Tedesco, of Avanti Way Realty, said, “We are committed to this extraordinary social cause by giving 10% of our proceeds to help build homes for families in need through our alliance with TECHO.” TECHO promotes the development of […]

BiG Cardio 2016 Adds Two Events for Even Bigger Impact

BiG Cardio will be back on Saturday, May 7, and it’s going to be bigger than ever! Added to the activities of previous events, the 9th Annual BiG Cardio will have a 100K road cycle, youth soccer clinics, and a CEO Challenge that participants won’t want to miss. And to allow for a greater focus on growing the event to benefit even more children, BiG Cardio will now be produced by BiG Children’s Foundation (BCF), a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization headed up by long-time 4KIDS staff member and advocate, Joyce Feldman. “BCF and 4KIDS are excited about the […]

When You Need to Go Fast

There are so many reasons to fast: To silence the clamor, To re-establish Christ as pre-eminent in your daily life, To glimpse the heart of God, To experience massive transformation in a situation or relationship, To unite as believers to experience personal and community revival, And the list goes on. The reasons why we fast are as varied as the details on how we fast and how we gauge a fast’s “success.” Then there are the reasons we don’t fast. At least in my life they are much fewer and by nature, almost pedestrian. I don’t feel like it. I’m […]

In life and death, Scalia changed the Supreme Court

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, the leader of the court’s conservative wing and an intellectual powerhouse, died on Feb. 13 at age 79, sending shock waves through the legal and political spheres. Scalia was the longest serving member of the current court. He appeared to have died from natural causes at a West Texas resort, according to reports. “I don’t think there’s much doubt he was the dominant figure on the court,” said former Circuit Judge Michael McConnell, who had Scalia as a professor in law school and later argued at least eight cases before him at the Supreme Court. When people unite, they drive change. Now for the second year, CityTalks will bring city leaders together with the faith-based community and business professionals to spark conversation and ignite change in our community. Just As He Said

(Scroll down to leave a comment on everything that Jesus has said that came to pass. ) We celebrate Easter at the end of this month, the day a dead man named Jesus got up and walked out of the grave. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was crucified, dead and buried, to pay the penalty for the sins of all those who would put their trust in Him, by grace through faith. And on that first Easter morning, the ground began to shake, the stone was rolled away and the King of kings and the Lord of lords walked […]

A Perspective on Second Amendment Rights

Florida has prohibited the open carry of firearms for nearly two decades, and efforts in recent years by gun-rights lobbyists to change that status haven’t been successful. While the idea of open carry of personal weapons may sound alarming to those of us who have lived for many years in South Florida, the fact is that Florida is one of only five states that do not allow open carry. The others are California, Illinois, New York and South Carolina, as well as the District of Columbia. There are initiatives, including HB 163, currently in process in the Florida legislature that […]

Miracles from Heaven is a Powerful and Emotional Success

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle” (unknown, but most commonly attributed to Albert Einstein). From Affirm Films (“Heaven is for Real” and “Risen”) comes another inspiring testimony: “Miracles from Heaven.” “Miracles from Heaven” is based on the true story of the Beam family as they encounter God’s unfailing love and constant presence during an incredible journey from hardship to healing.   How do you explain the impossible? How do you explain… a miracle? The question is posed in the opening […]

Q Commons Explores Cultural Topics and Advances Good in South Florida

Take a look around South Florida…what do you see? Some see beauty – roadways lined with palm trees, breathtaking sunsets, endless beach, perfect weather, leading philanthropy, attractive people, yachts, cruise ships, expensive cars, a thriving economy and carefree smiles of people from across the world saying, “hello Sunny!” Others see brokenness. Income inequality – impoverished low-income housing across the street from a Ferrari dealership. A homeless epidemic – men and women with small children standing on street corners asking for a meal and safe shelter. An overtaxed foster care system – sirens wailing, first responders removing children from their homes. Overburdened […]

The Bible and Marijuana Use

In the ongoing debate about the legalization of medical marijuana, I propose the following considerations in an effort to counterbalance the propaganda of some who think that this so-called mild hallucinogen might be relatively harmless. What if the euphoria of marijuana intoxication were not all-that innocent? What biblical principles — if any — should be considered in the consumption of cannabis beyond the pathological effects of this often smoked plant on the human body which — for Christians at least — is a temple of God (I Corinthians 6:19) not to be desecrated? Is there something qualitatively different about the […]
