America’s Gospel Dance Championship Celebrates the Arts

The fine arts have for years provided artists with critical thinking skills and creative strategies, which are lifelong skills that can be applied in problem solving and other situations.  Enjoyed by many people, the arts are sometimes used to send strong messages and to express very deep thoughts often incomprehensible to its viewers. It’s used in many arenas as a tool to make masses of people more aware and often influences how one perceives things. Through visualization, art can clearly state the truth, replay history or be solely about creating or capturing beauty.  Art helps people visualize a story that […]

Women of Influence: Running the Race Marked Out For You

Most of us aspire toward a life of meaning, purpose and contribution. Heroic acts of compassion by people such as Mother Theresa and Dorothy Day invite our spirits to rise up a notch. Great competitive athletes and performers inspire us to pack stadiums, arenas and living rooms across the globe. Many of us even put on their work uniforms – their jerseys – and buy shirts and hats with their names on them. Something in us is drawn to greatness. Most of us have heard of the Proverbs 31 woman. She is virtuous, strong, wise, entrepreneurial, the perfect mother, the […]

Balancing Accountability and Grace in Broward County

Florida youth who have committed a community offense are benefitting from services that promote positive change and redemption through the Faith and Community Network and the PROMISE Program. While some believe that all those who commit a crime or community infraction should pay for their offense, others understand that each of us have made regretted mistakes and are in need of grace or a second chance to learn from those mistakes. Matthew 6:14-15 states, “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive […]

Bearing Witness: Exposing the Reality of Modern Day Genocide

It was not so long ago that six million Jews perished in the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazi regime. Many stayed quiet for so long — until it was too late. Jewish people lost entire families — mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. Entire communities were wiped out. And since that great atrocity, the world has been educated on the reality of evil and mass murder. It is for this reason that the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. continues to shout, “Never again!” and has not only taken on the great task of educating the […]

Sugar’s Sweet Deception

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the mountainous health advice we receive every day? It sometimes seems as if everything is going to send us to an early grave. The sad truth is that our food chain is contaminated, and perhaps one of the most destructive and harmful substances to the human body is sugar. Sugar is considered by many to be more damaging than alcohol or tobacco, and yet we allow our children to consume it on a daily basis. Sugar has been found to be more addicting than cocaine and heroin. Our bodies do their best to metabolize […]

Jesus’ Final Days in Jerusalem

One of the most memorable moments of any tour to Israel is standing on the Mount of Olives and looking across the valley at the Eastern Gate of the Temple Mount. One can’t help but imagine the magnificent Temple of King Herod standing there or Jesus walking through the Eastern Gate as He most assuredly did, and according to scripture, He will most likely do again. But, any casual observer will notice that the Eastern Gate has been sealed shut. Almost 500 years ago, when the Turks conquered Jerusalem under the leadership of Suleiman the Magnificent, he commanded that the […]

The Monday After Easter

The resurrection of Jesus is meant to change your everyday life. The historical truth that Jesus is alive is just as important on the Monday after Easter as it is on Easter Sunday. In the words of rapper Lecrae, “If he’s truly raised to life, then it’s news to change your life,” but change it in what way? How does Easter Sunday relate to your Monday? Thankfully, Matthew answers that question in the end of his gospel. Unlike the other gospel writers (Mark, Luke & John), Matthew doesn’t focus so much on the evidence of the resurrection but upon the implications of the resurrection. Matthew is not out to […]
