Majority of Americans view abortion as wrong

America is trending pro-life. A Knights of Columbus-Marist survey finds 58 percent of those in the “Millennial” group (18-29 years old) agreed with the statement that abortion is “morally wrong.” Fifty-one percent of Baby Boomers (those 45-64) and 60 percent of Gen X’ers (30-44) feel the same. “Americans of all ages – and younger people in even greater numbers than their parents – see abortion as something morally wrong,” said Carl Anderson, a spokesman for the Knights. “America has turned a corner and is embracing life – and, in doing so, is embracing a future they – and all of […]

The King’s Academy Cheer Team top spot

The King’s Academy cheer team is living proof that hard work does indeed pay off in the end. The competition cheer team, from The King’s Academy private Christian school, recently competed against 57 other teams during a semifinal round, earning them a spot in the state finals. Last month, on Feb. 6, the team battled it out at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, with 14 other teams, all hoping to take home the desired 2010 FHSAA State Title. Led by head coach Jenn Allen since 2007, the cheer team has been working incredibly hard over the past few years […]

Experts debunk study claiming two moms better than Mom and Dad

A study in the Journal of Marriage and Family concludes that any set of two or more compatible parents are as good for children as a married, biological mother and father. In particular, lesbians, they claim, “seem to outparent comparable married, heterosexual, biological parents.” Glenn Stanton, director of family formation studies at Focus on the Family, debunks the findings. “They’re just completely overreaching their hand,” he said. “Are we to think that nature has really sent each one of us down a second-rate road of having to be raised by a man and a woman?” The research dismisses more than […]

Don’t miss out on the good things

Last month my two youngest boys were selling Camp Cards to raise money for their Boy Scout Troop. It seemed pretty simple. Buy a card for $5 and get $5 off next time you go to Publix, plus a bunch of other yearlong savings. To me it was a no-brainer. It really is no cost to the buyer if you shop at Publix. One Sunday we decided to go to Publix and sell cards outside, with approval of course. I thought this would be easy.  We could sell the 140 cards in about an hour covering both entrances. Four hours […]

Media bias shows up in the strangest places

The mainstream media love lists. On almost any day, open up the paper or log on to your favorite News website, and there’s some sort of list: The Richest Americans. The Best Colleges. The Most Powerful Political Leaders. Whatever. These lists are designed to look like valid studies. They may even tout a rigorous methodology. But most of these lists are generated using arbitrary, and often ideologically driven, criteria. The lists that I find the most frustrating are those that rate cities. The Happiest Cities. The Best Cities to Raise a Family. And this week’s entry: “The Best U.S. Cities […]

Personhood bill introduced 3 states

Personhood has expanded into three new states, including Iowa, Virginia and Kansas. On Jan. 13, Virginia introduced HB 112, a bill to guarantee the constitutional rights of pre-born children. Shortly after, Iowa introduced HJR 2003, proposing a joint resolution for an amendment including a right to life for all men and women, irrespective of age. The same day, Kansas submitted a personhood amendment to the state’s Office of Revisor of Statutes. “A two-thirds majority of both legislative houses is needed to pass the amendment, and that can be a rather challenging endeavor; so it is of the utmost importance that […]

Saltshaker

I recall a recent Wednesday evening that turned out to be anything but mundane. After finishing a rather unremarkable dinner of soup and some fruit juice, I strolled into my master bedroom to wash up and crash out for the night.  To my dismay, however, I discovered that where dry carpeting should have been, an inch of water covered the floor of my bedroom, closet and master bath. And it was making its way into other parts of my home. My neighbor’s water heater had burst. Along with its demise came the unrelenting onslaught of more water than I care […]

Focus on the Creator not just his handiwork

Peering out my 18th-floor window at the Denver Grand Hyatt, I was delighted to see a fresh layer of snow blanketing the city. Ah, what a welcome sight for a perennial Floridian. I can’t recall the last time I awoke to the sight of the fluffy white stuff sprawled across the ground. It was the final day of the Jerry Jenkins Christian Writers Guild conference. After four days of sitting in hotel conference rooms listening to intense seminars and speeches stretching my mind and imagination, I was hungry to get a glimpse of the majestic Rocky Mountains, another rare sight […]

Helping our children with Haiti

As children watch the children of Haiti, they need help processing the tragedy. They ask, “Mom, why did this happen?” But the real question on their minds is “Could this happen to us?” Tragedy is a horrible part of this world, but tragedy is also a reality. Yes, it could happen to any of us, in various ways. That’s why we don’t trust in anything other than God. Children need the opportunity to talk about the Haiti tragedy. Our children need to be taught to pray for the children of Haiti, as they are pointed toward God for their faith […]
