‘Cancel Culture’ Strikes D. James Kennedy Ministries

Lifetime TV demanded in February that D. James Kennedy Ministries (DJKM) eliminate all “controversial” content from Truths That Transform, its weekly half-hour Christian broadcast. Specifically, Lifetime announced it would no longer air programming that addressed abortion or Left-wing financier George Soros. And it refused to carry any DJKM programming—even broadcasts celebrating George Washington—unless the media ministry founded in 1974 agreed to Lifetime’s sweeping new conditions. “Because of Lifetime’s newfound ban on so-called ‘controversial’ content, D. James Kennedy Ministries has been forced off the cable channel—to which we have paid enormous fees since 2018 to air our program,” said Frank Wright, […]

The Absence of the Father and the Void Left Unmanned

There is an insidious pandemic with potential generational impact that has seemingly gone undetected, and it is not COVID-19, it is the absence of the Father.  In the US there are an estimated 20 million children living in a home without the physical presence of a father.  Millions more have dads who are physically present, but emotionally absent.  If it were classified as a disease, fatherlessness would be an epidemic worthy of attention as a national emergency.  In short, fatherlessness is associated with almost every societal ill facing our country’s children and it creates vulnerabilities that are easily exploited. The […]

Church United Will Host Love Listens on March 11

2020 was challenging. It left ministry leaders discouraged and disoriented to the current cultural moment. In many cases, we moved from being “on mission” to simply trying to survive. And, the Church was never meant to simply “survive” the cultural moment, but flourish while sharing our faith, giving hope, and extending Christ’s love.  But how do we do empower our churches to be on mission together when there’s not even a consensus around if we should be meeting in-person or not? That is why Church United has partnered with Alpha, Barna, The Bible Project, and Gloo to host a one-day […]

Church by the Glades Is What’s Trending

A meager 42 percent of millennials attend church, according to a recent Gallup Poll, but one local church is drawing them in droves. Known for their high energy music, LED lights show and full on theatrical production, Church by the Glades, with its “No Perfect People” slogan, attracts a diverse crowd of about 9,000 people to their campuses on a typical weekend (pre-COVID) with the average age of attendees in their early thirties. “It’s hard to fall asleep in our church,” said David Hughes, Lead Pastor of Church by the Glades (CBG), who utilizes innovative and creative methods to passionately […]

Backstage

With over 250 pastors quitting ministry each month across America, we know that the emotional, spiritual and relational health of pastors and church leaders affects the life of a congregation and spiritual vibrancy of a city more than any other factor. Healthy leaders lead healthy churches, and healthy churches change the fabric of their region. Even though pastors and church staff members are surrounded by people, ministry can be a lonely journey. The perceived external pressures to perform and achieve, coupled with the internal struggles of the heart, can sap a leader’s passion, strength and ultimately mute their call. It […]

Forgiveness Is Required

Last month we addressed the impact of trust or lack thereof on our relationships, and that trust is a gateway to love. As is often the case when praying and pondering about writing this article, I usually have to experience what I’m writing. Candidly, sometimes I tell God I don’t want to write about “that subject” because I know he’ll expose me to the cracks and crevices and sometimes caverns of my brokenness and require me to experience or revisit some element of the subject. So, this month we’ll move from trust to forgiveness. And yes, both topics I’ve experienced […]

Rebuilding Together Broward Restores The Heart of Communities Through Revitalization

When hundreds of volunteers descend on a community in a day, they can transform a decaying city block into a friendly neighborhood infused with a renewed pride in ownership and appreciation for the kindness of others. This is the impact of Rebuilding Together Broward County and the partnerships they have cultivated to eliminate unsafe and deplorable living conditions for low-income homeowners who are elderly, veterans or have disabilities. It extends beyond repairing each individual home and helps stabilize much of the vulnerable neighborhoods in which they live. “When you lift a few houses, you lift an entire community,” noted Traci […]

Violence In The Land

Josephus, the ancient historian who chronicled first century Jewish history in The Jewish War, says that 12,000 Jews died when the Roman general Pompey captured Jerusalem in 63 BC.
