Angel Tree Program Launched on Giving Tuesday

The Salvation Army of Broward County launched its popular Holiday Angel Tree program beginning Giving Tuesday, November 27. This year, The Salvation Army of Broward is offering two easy ways to give – through visits to local retail locations and, for the first time, through Amazon.com. The popular holiday initiative provides a unique opportunity to involve the community in a direct way, allowing them to become personally involved in sharing with those less fortunate. “For almost 40 years, The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program has embodied the giving spirit of the Christmas season through faith, hope and generosity,” said Major Keath Biggers, Area Commander […]

The Reason for the Season

It’s that most wonderful time of the year again! Throughout December it is likely you will see or hear the phrase, “The Reason for the Season.” There is only one true reason, of course, and His name is Jesus Christ. And that reason does not spring from an uninformed, blind leap of faith. To those who sneer that believing in the Babe in the manger is like believing in Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you can calmly and kindly reply that the birth of Christ is an historical event that is beyond contestation, which took place just over 2000 years ago […]

All I Want for Christmas is…What?

The answer to that question could determine the success or failure of your Christmas experience. As a parent, the question is: What do we really want for Christmas? Don’t we want something that will last on into generations to come? Something powered by more than batteries. I have never heard anyone say, “We have a great family tradition of giving each other video games for Christmas. It’s been an awesome part of our Christmas for generations. It’s what brings us back home each year.” There are many things we could get for our family members – items that will not […]

Giving Thanks and All That

“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night” (Psalm 92:1–2). Some people might venture through their entire life without encountering someone they believed to be absolutely extraordinary. I am not one of those people. I want to tell you about a young man who falls smack dab into this distinguished category, who made a profound impact on the life of everyone in the brief time we were allowed to know him. Our son James was born with […]

FCA Raises $90,000 in 100-Hole Golf Marathon

Eighteen men accepted the challenge and played in the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) 100-hole Golf Marathon on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the beautiful Coral Ridge Country Club.  Each of the players played for 9 glorious hours in a sun-drenched South Florida day. J.C. Conte was Master of Ceremonies for the after tournament Awards dinner and cool down as players reminisced about the flurry of “almost” holes-in-one. Bryan Mitchell enjoyed the tournament’s only Hole-in-one and Will Lust was Low Score Medalist and Austin Cook was tops in Most Birdies. The big winner for the day was the Fellowship of […]

The Wonderful Things My Wife Says…

One day, my wife Lisa said she felt that it was time we sacrifice more. I wasn’t sure what she meant. Was it time to begin to construct an altar in the back yard?  What would our neighbors think? What would we do with all the animals? Would Chihuahuas qualify? “Stephan, Stephan, Stephaaaaaaan….I think God is telling us we need to sacrifice more.” When I heard my name repeated several times, I realized that I had drifted off, probably a coping mechanism. “What do you mean?”  I asked. “I think we ought to adopt a child, and I think that […]

Good News Wants to Know …. What are you Thankful For that Made this Year Special?

Since this is our November Thanksgiving issue, in the year 2018 are there one or two things that you’re thankful for that made this year special?   2018 brought us a baby girl, Summer Winslow Denison. She’s grateful that her big brother thinks she’s a dog (he pats her head like one) and also grateful her big sister Nora hasn’t blinded her (she’s constantly trying to poke her eyeballs out). Bob Denison, President, Denison Yacht Sales       Last December my wife had a chest x-ray during her normal checkup. The doctors noticed several small crushed glass circles in her right lung. […]
