SF HEAT 5K Run Raises Funds for Home School Athletics

Close to 200 people participated in the South Florida HEAT (Home Education Athletic Teams) 5K Run/Walk and Family Fund Day on Saturday, November 22 at Markahm Park to raise funds for the FHSAA accredited high school sports program. A Christian based, not-for-profit organization working with homeschooling families, the SF HEAT develops tomorrow’s servant-leaders by applying life lessons available from the interscholastic athletic arena. Established in 2004, the SF HEAT enables homeschooled kids to compete against public and private schools. Care Packages Aid Ronald McDonald House Families

Staff members from Foresters, an international financial services provider, put together 140 special care packages on November 20 for children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Lauderdale. A “home-away-from-home,” Ronald McDonald House keeps families close together when their seriously-ill or injured children are hospitalized. These special care packages included items such as deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, tissues and shampoo. Shoe Boxes Spread Christmas Cheer

Students from Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran School in Fort Lauderdale packed shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child and helped load their “love boxes” onto a truck in November. Earlier students from Trinitas Academy in Plantation delivered “overflowing” Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes packed by the students and their teacher, Allison Maxham. The next step in the journey for these boxes will include a trip to Charlotte, N.C., where they will be processed and sent out to one of 130 countries. The Town of Miami Lakes posted America’s congressionally-approved national motto “In God We Trust,” last month in the chamber where they conduct the people’s business. The plaque was presented to Miami Lakes Mayor Slaton by Jacquie Sullivan, founder and president of In God We Trust America, an organization designed to promote patriotism by encouraging elected officials to “Vote Yes” to display “In God We Trust” in their City and County Chambers.
