On Thursday, May 2, people of all faiths are invited to pray for our nation during the National Day of Prayer. The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance that was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
The theme this year is “love one another,” based on John 13:34: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (NIV).
Stella Tokar, of The Bridge Church in Pembroke Pines, is the South Florida coordinator for the National Day of Prayer. “When I became a Christian and discovered I was allowed to have a personal conversation with the Lord, it was so impactful, ” said Tokar. “Because there has been so much turmoil, I think people are ready for this. The theme couldn’t be more appropriate this year, and I believe God uses it all,” said Tokar.
Several church and civic groups have organized prayer gatherings.
The Presidential Prayer Team, the national, nonpartisan prayer ministry for America and its leaders, will also host an online prayer event allowing participants to unite online and pray together for the leadership of our country as part of the largest collective prayer event in US history. To join the free, online prayer gathering, Americans can visit www.pray.team/NDOP to sign-up for a specific time to lift the country up in prayer.
