Finish Well

As we approach the final quarter of the school year, most of us are tired. Students, teachers, parents, we are all trying to just make it to the end of the year. But what about finishing well? We are in the final stretch of the school year marathon and we need to sprint not crawl. How can we motivate our child to finish well? The first thing we need to do when processing motivating our children to do something is ask ourselves “why?” Is this an area that they need to be motivated in for their future success? Is it […]

Comedy Is Good for The Soul – Seriously!

The ability to laugh together is important and profound. Laughter allows us to let our guard down and opens us up to hear a deeper message. That’s why Comedienne Dede Lomenick, founder of The Devine MOMedy says, “The ultimate joy is to communicate God’s message to an audience and do it in a way that is funny and engaging.” She added, “I also LOVE when I’m in front of a secular crowd and I have them laughing hard and then they find out that I’m a pastor’s wife. Not only that, but I’m a Christian too! People seem shocked that […]

Spring Break Means More Time With the Kids

Spring Break… It conjures up different emotions for different people.  For those of us who live in South Florida, it means an influx of college students. A long break for parents can be a mixed bag. it can mean more time with the kids and on the other hand more time with the kids… It can also lay bare issues over parenting. If mom and dad don’t agree on issues, a long break can expose and exacerbate this.   When […]

For many, Valentine’s Day and the month of love and romance is full of hopeful anticipation, flower deliveries, chocolates, maybe a proposal with the promise of forever love. Merrill Lynch Wealth Management explains the uses of and limits to this popular education savings tool.   Millions of Americans use 529 plans to sock away money for their kids’ and grandkids’ education. Fathers Teach Marriage… for Better or Worse

“Why are we washing dishes again Dad?” my young son asked me. “We always wash, Dad. Should Mom be doing this?” It was a natural question coming from a child who believed we had gone past our responsibility of service. Why are we still serving? He stopped just short of saying, “Shouldn’t Mom be doing this?” A child growing up in our culture today has no way of knowing what the marriage relationship is all about.  We have come to believe that marriage is something you “get.” You get another salary, another person to do the chores and you get […]

Perhaps We’ve Just Gone Too Far

I don’t know how or why I started receiving a weekly summary of my cell phone usage, but I now receive breakdowns of the amount of time I spend on various apps. This little update tells me how much time I spend, or even waste, using various phone apps including Spider Solitaire and Sudoku… Yikes! What, in your opinion, is the least “preached on” subject in America? What is the one subject that the least number of Americans really want to address in earnest? I don’t know the answer to that question, but I know that the subject of “gluttony” […]

Hands-On Tradition Connects With Kids

The real reason for the holiday season sometimes gets lost beneath the presents, parties and pie – especially for children. But, this year, a new Christmas tradition points kids to the real reason we celebrate – Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross. A Nest for the Savior is a new children’s book about a sparrow who finds the manger empty and fills it with a nest for Jesus. After reading the short story, children flip the book over to access the activity guide which gives them instructions to build their own nest for the Savior, using symbolic elements easily found around […]
