Hope South Florida

HOPE South Florida is the Front Door to Hope for the Homeless There are currently over 200 homeless families on a waiting list for shelter in Broward County alone. Most of these families are single mothers with children. These families in crisis are our community’s modern day widows — every one of them in need of hope, housing, and restoration through loving community. Different from the man on the side of the road or the off ramp to I-95, these families are the forgotten face of homelessness. Thankfully, that’s where the work of HOPE South Florida begins. Read More Click image […]

Hepzibah House: A Safe Haven for Survivors of Sex Trafficking

Imagine for a moment a young girl, 13 years old. Imagine she’s walking home from school when she is suddenly pulled violently off of the street into a van where she is chloroformed and shackled. Imagine she wakes up in the back room of a warehouse on a dirty, stinking mattress, chained with a group of other girls. Imagine she is forced, through systematic abuse and drug doping, to perform unspeakable acts against her will, repeatedly, to those who are willing to pay for it. Imagine her bruised and broken body and soul with hope extinguished by the relentless brutality […]

South Floridians Restore Missions Hospital

In November 2008, Don Campion, president of Banyan Air, returned to Egbe, Nigeria, to show his wife, Sueanne, the little village in Africa where he grew up and his parents were missionaries for forty years. What he discovered grieved him.  The hospital that his parents, Dr. George and Esther Campion, a young doctor and nurse, had pioneered in a remote village in 1952 was completely run down and there had been no missionaries there for more than five years before their visit. “It was obvious that the hospital would be reduced to a clinic or go out of existence entirely, […]

Dependence Day!

This month we celebrate American Independence Day, representing the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. This was the day the Continental Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence, having already declared the independence of the colonists from the authority of the British on July 2, 1776. As important as this day is in the life of our great nation for our independence, in contrast I pray we will be reminded to declare our utter dependence upon God, not only this day, but every day on this side of heaven.  “I am the true vine, and my Father […]

Connecting With Croatia

Boca High Students Bring Hope to Gypsy Children One student’s summer trip has turned into a vision for a Croatian community of children that has become contagious at Boca High School. In June, a group of 19 students from Boca High’s Project Life Club will travel to Croatia and build relationships with Roma-Gypsy children who have been left in poverty after a forgotten war between Croatia and Serbia. It all started when Matthew Lewis went to Croatia with his sister, Emily, and six of her friends from college. “The first time I went, my mom was making me,” said Lewis, […]

Vacation Bible School: A Summer Tradition

While leisurely beach days and sunshine are at the forefront of most young minds during summer break, many families also look forward to the fun-filled tradition of Vacation Bible School. Vacation bible school programs provide age-appropriate games, crafts, skits, music and other activities designed to entertain and educate young minds about the Gospel message.  What are Vacation Bible Schools? Historically, its origins are credited to a doctor’s wife, Mrs. Walter Aylett Hawes, who rented a beer hall in New York’s East Side to conduct her Everyday Bible School in order to get kids off the street, according to an article […]

Six Pillars of Parenting for Fathers

The first Father’s Day in the United States was observed on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. The day was proposed by Mrs. John B. Dodd, who wanted to honor her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who raised six children alone after his wife died in childbirth. Clearly, Mrs. Dodd took seriously the Lord’s instruction, set forth in the fifth commandment, to honor your father.  I understand that not all of us have a father like William Smart, who seemed worthy of honor. But the commandment does not tell us to honor our father if he is honorable; […]
