Standing Up to the Challenge

In recognition of their accomplishments, this month South Florida students walk up to receive their diplomas and step out into a world of opportunity. Each class has a personality of its own, but this class “has a passion to do things bigger than themselves and connect with others to make things happen,” said Chris Lane, executive director of First Priority, a ministry that supports faith-based clubs in the public schools.   Finding what’s real and genuine Michael Dube, upper school principal at Jupiter Christian School, agreed. “In this particular group of students, I have seen a commitment to serve and […]

Alternatives to the Two-Party Gridlock

Recently, the Libertarian Party held its first nationally televised debate. Hosted by Fox Business commentator John Stossel, the two-part event was broadcast on most cable systems and the internet. A CNN poll in late March revealed that 39 percent of voters would consider a third party candidate if Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were the nominees of the two major parties. Only about 33 percent are comfortable with Trump as the Republican nominee. The most recent poll from the Associated Press reveals even more potential for a third party to gain momentum, as 20 percent of polled voters stated […]

Entering the Promised Land

The first glimpse of the Promised Land that the Israelites had from the east side of the Jordan River must have elicited a range of emotions. After 40 years of wandering in the desert, eating some unknown substance called “what is it?” (mannah), they must have been extremely relieved to be entering the land of milk and honey they had been told about. In addition, they felt fearful knowing that there were still giants living in the land they were entering. But, the children of Israel could have also been a little disappointed. Their view from the east side of […]

Should We Have Higher Standards in Musical Tastes?

Consider the age-old question:  Should Christians have a higher standard in their musical tastes than non-believers?  Actually, it probably is not ‘age-old’ because in ancient times there was not the onslaught of different musical genres or questionable lyrics that we are faced with today. Even looking at church worship, we see in recent decades division among congregations based on contemporary songs vs. traditional hymns. Though both praise our Lord and have edifying lyrics, we still find partiality.  Some argue traditional hymns are more reverent and holy than the upbeat worship songs while others argue the hymns don’t invoke a […]

They met together the following morning, and revoked his job offer the next day. Walsh holds a medical degree and a doctorate in public health, served on President Barack Obama’s Presidential […]

I’m More Spiritual

“My husband and I are both believers, but he’s more passionate about his job and sports teams than he is about God. How can I get him to be more intentional about his faith?” That was a question posed to Dr. Scott Stanley, a research professor and the co-director of the Center for Marital and Family Studies at the University of Denver on a Focus on the Family radio show. It’s common for believing couples to feel some dissonance with their spiritual compatibility. Having a desire for your spouse to be more spiritual is not, in and of itself, a […]
