Moms and dads are not necessary

Following weeks of criticism from the homosexual community, the Obama Justice Department filed a legal brief in September arguing that children do not necessarily need a mother and a father and that same-sex households are equivalent to traditional households for child-rearing. The legal brief, perhaps ironically, was filed in defense of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, although the brief made clear that the administration believes the 1996 law is “discriminatory” and it “supports its repeal.” DOMA, as it is often called, gives states the option of banning “gay marriage” and prevents the federal government from recognizing such relationships. It’s […]

Anne Graham Lotz downplays religion

In the aftermath of 9/11, religions in America took a front-page position, and Anne Graham Lotz felt required to convey the message that the one true God is not interested in religion. “We’ve always known about other religions, but Islam, Judaism and Christianity are three major world religions that are talked about in the News every day now,” Lotz told Baptist Press. “Abraham is considered the patriarch of these religions, but he actually left religion in order to pursue a personal relationship with God. He was not a religious man from the time he left Ur on. He instead pursued […]

2009: a year of change for everyone

Back in January, President-elect Barack Obama invited the Rev. Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration. Those on both sides of the political spectrum took notice. Conservative evangelicals, most of whom did not vote for Obama, didn’t criticize him, so much as they did Warren, for accepting the invitation. Outrage from the homosexual-activist community, most of whom did vote for Obama, criticized the invitation, because Warren had actively campaigned for traditional marriage during California’s Proposition 8 campaign. And, of course, atheist Michael Newdow has organized a group of 11 atheist and humanist groups to file suit against the […]

When we turn our lives over to God, and […]

Faith during the tough times

There are times when my faith in God feels stronger than ever. God is moving, prayers are being answered, and lives are being changed because of the power and love of Christ. But there are other times when God stretches my faith. Like me, you may have asked the question, why does God allow evil things to happen? If you have, you are in good company. The prophet Habakkuk wrestled with this very question, too. Like Habakkuk, I’ve discovered that it’s not so much my immediate circumstances that God uses to grow my faith, but rather my questions about what […]

Trinity Spirit Fest II

“Get ready to be moved” is the theme of the Trinity Spirit Festival to be held on Saturday, February 6th in Delray Beach, featuring Dallas based-band, Addison Road, Colorado based-duo, The Sonflowerz, and South Florida-based, Cadence. The second annual event began when parents at Trinity Lutheran Church and School were developing a fundraising idea. “I thought maybe we needed more of a faith raiser than a fundraiser, says Steve Cruz, parent at the school and church member. Cruz points towards our culture and the divorce rates as something that concerns him. “Kids get dropped off at school, they learn all […]
