Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Continues COVID-19 Relief Efforts

In response to the effects of COVID-19, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale (CCFL) has been organizing and executing several outreach and relief efforts. On Friday, April 10 at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale the church hosted a drive-thru outreach to pass out a gift, including essential items like hand sanitizer to bless families in the community and those with neighbors in need. Extreme sanitation measures and CDC guidelines were followed when putting the gifts together.  “We have the privilege of giving away over 15,000 hand sanitizers through the generosity of our church family. We believe that Christ has called us to live […]

Leading In Difficult Times

The COVID-19 Pandemic has quickly changed the world we live in. Uncertainty, fear, confusion and financial loss can cause us to lose perspective quickly. As Christians, how are we to lead in difficult times? How does it look different than the world? Many are faced with challenging decisions in the weeks and months ahead.  For some, we are in a fog, not knowing what tomorrow will bring. As men and women who follow Jesus, we need a perspective that reflects the reality of our hope. Difficult times can be seen either as an obstacle or an opportunity. My hope is […]

What Will This Reality Teach Us?

The current trial before this nation and this world is difficult and deeply painful for many. To others it will remain a temporary “new normal” not without its inconveniences, fears and unknowns. Whatever the level of intensity and personal impact, this season of adversity will likely alter the way we perceive faith and one another. What we collectively and individually experience now, will be recounted and discussed for generations around dinner tables, campfires and pulpits. We have officially entered into a historic event whether we realize it or not. Reality is a great teacher. The following themes, from a pastor’s […]

Amid COVID – Sow Seeds of Righteousness

“Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers righteousness on you” (Hosea 10:12). As a pastor, it is important for me to keep track of current events, both here in South Florida and throughout the world, so that I may know how best to minister to our congregation and how to pray for all of you and for our world. But as a man whose sinful flesh is stained by sin and selfishness, there are times I’d really rather […]

What Stands in the Way Becomes the Way

I like you, open my email daily and find worthy writers’ devotionals and musings. I often click “delete” for lack of time. I remind myself that I should read my Bible first, then if I have time, read the ponderings of others. This week I came across famous quotes and stumbled upon a quote by Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” I read it a few times, and the COVID virus came to mind. My mind rambled on like one kicking a stone along a worn path, and […]

While Finishing School At Home, Make Room For Fun

As we are heading into the most unusual end of the school year any of us have encountered, there are a few things that will help us as parents. We have been homeschooling for a while now and are probably at a point of getting antsy. For many of us, as things start opening up, it could create new challenges. Worry not about tomorrow First, we need to remember to take one day at a time. Matthew 6:34 reminds us not to worry about tomorrow… we just need to focus on today; tomorrow will take care of itself. Marathon, not […]

9 Principles for Biblical Leadership

I’m grateful to be working alongside incredible leaders like José  Bernardo who is a Vice-President at OneHope overseeing all of our Lusophone countries. He is one of the greatest organizational leaders and strategic thinkers I have ever met. Of course, he shares our passion and vision to engage the next generation with God’s Word. This is a powerful biblical expository on the leadership principles necessary to influence and impact the next generation, especially for those who have committed to helping fulfill Vision 2030. When Jesus announced that His journey to Jerusalem would lead Him to suffering, death and resurrection, the mention […]

The Mission is Still On

In a recent article, Christian writer Jeff Christopherson suggests three ideas that, if embraced by the Church, would lead to unprecedented spiritual renewal in our cities. His ideas were simple:    The Gospel is everyone’s vocation — not just a chosen few.   From the start of the Coronavirus to the time this article was written, Google searches for faith-related questions are up 700 percent. “The Search for God” documentary is trending on Netflix. Churches across the globe saw record numbers of digital attendance over Easter. What this means is that our friends, neighbors, family members and co-workers are searching […]

Time Out

Disclaimer: God is not angry with me… He is simply teaching me something.   I grew up as the oldest of seven children, yes, that’s right, a large family. We don’t see too many of those anymore. I can certainly say that growing up in a family of seven children, two parents, various friends and relatives all co-mingling was anything but social distancing. A large family has to manage different than a small family. For example, a station wagon was not big enough, so we actually had a 15-passenger van to transport the beehive. Chores, did I mention the chores? […]
