Prayer, Rain and Ecosystems

Having just celebrated Easter, I am reminded that the resurrection of Jesus is the unifying factor of every Christian. No matter our tradition or denomination, the story of every Christ follower is one of resurrection. We are a people who have moved from death into new life. That shared experience transcends race, ethnicity, cultures, vocation, occupation and personal preference. Being a people who have moved from death into new life is the birthmark of God’s people. It’s not just the beginning of the story – it is the story. The resurrection unleashes uncommon people towards uncommon generosity, unity and love. […]

A Mile in God’s Sandals I remember hearing a well-known author speak about how he asks God every year for a word… and that word becomes his compass heading for the year. I liked that. I chose a word this year. The word was perspective. I am asking God to let me see things from His perspective. Some of my musings this year have been on that subject. I find it interesting how God sees stuff. Some of the conversations I have had, the people I have met, the books I have read have all been around seeing things from […]

Good News Wants to Know…

In an effort to help our readers get acquainted with leaders who are making an impact in South Florida, we’re asking the kind of questions that make for interesting conversation at a neighborhood barbecue. This month we want to know what their children have to say, not what they think they will say…so we asked them to call them (If they don’t have a child, call someone they may have mentored) and ask them … What would the public or your friends be SURPRISED to learn about you? Here’s what we learned…   From his son Cam: -Romney Rogers coached baseball, football and soccer […]

The UN-CAMP

When deciding on summer plans for your teen, be it youth group camp, sleep-away camp or day camp, how do you distinguish? When I was growing up, the experience was pretty much the same except for what I slept on and how many people were sharing the oxygen in the room. I also remember when 7UP came on the scene. If you grew up watching TV in the 80s, you would remember the commercials with the baritone voice of the island man saying, “It’s the Uncola, aaaaaah!” or “It’s Marvelous, absolutely marvelous.” We watched him drink the “cool and refreshing […]

5 Things I’ve Learned From David Green

There are things you only learn through association with others. I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by incredible people who are constantly teaching me things I’d never get to experience otherwise. One of these people is David Green, founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby. My connection with David began in 1997. I was meeting with leaders in the Philippines about the possibility of distributing the Book of Hope in schools. At the end of the meeting, we were miraculously granted permission to give all six million high schoolers in the Philippines a Book of Hope! I eagerly promised that we […]
