First Priority Brings Game Day to Elementary Schools

First Priority is bringing a fun-filled gospel message to elementary schools in the New Year, and they are seeking churches, parents, volunteers and school sponsors to get in the game with them. FP Game Day is a new after-school club, featuring 20 minutes of high energy games followed by a Bible lesson and an invitation to receive the gospel. “The age range in which the highest number of people accept Jesus is between 4-14 years old,” said Game Day Director Brody Howell, pointing to statistics from the International Bible Society. “FP Game Day is going to reach 7-10 year old’s. Be Refreshingly Uncommon

My dad told me a long time ago, “Find out what everybody else is doing and don’t do it.” I have found this little bit of advice to be beneficial at times. As a pastor sometimes I observe other pastors and preachers and I read about church leadership, church growth, vision-casting and fundraising, and I do the exact opposite. Be refreshingly uncommon at times. For example, my wife and I see a marriage counselor and have no problem sharing that publicly. How can I counsel couples on the importance of checking in with a counselor when I’m not willing to […]

Theology of Work

Many organizations I consult for are facing the same struggle. They’ve hit a wall and can’t figure out how to move forward, grow and successfully scale in their current context. Much of the time the barrier is the same: they’re still operating in the old paradigm where the secular is separate and unequal to the sacred. Theologically that’s simply not the case. We must be diligent about removing the veil between the sacred and the secular, and acknowledge that all of life is sacred space. Foundational to successfully operate in this new freedom requires that everyone can fully acknowledge and […]

“Blind Eyes Opened” Informs and Equips to Help Stop Human Trafficking

Many are aware of the growing international problem of human sex trafficking, but very few are aware of how prevalent it is in their own communities and how extensive it has become. One of the most important steps that must be made prior to taking effective action towards resolving any problem is to become informed. A new and effective tool to both inform and motivate people to take action in this battle is the upcoming documentary “Blind Eyes Opened: The Truth About Sex Trafficking in America,” which will be showing in select theaters nationwide one-night only on January 23. The film […]

Resurrection: Fact or Fiction – Did Jesus Exist?

Christianity is the number one most verifiable (or falsifiable) religion in the world.  Why? Because Christianity makes truth claims that can be investigated historically and proven to be either true or false. Over the next four months, I want to present to you the four proofs supporting the resurrection of Jesus Christ, from both secular and biblical writings, agreed upon by a wide spectrum of New Testament scholars, both Christian and critical. In my study “Resurrection: Fact or Fiction,” I call them my 4 Easter E’s : Exist – did Jesus Exist? Executed – was Jesus Executed? Empty Tomb – […]

Songs of Our City

If we could write anthems and prayers for the Church in South Florida to sing in this season, what would they say? This was the question we asked ourselves at a Village Hymns songwriting workshop. We decided to start a conversation about the brokenness we see around us and pulled out a whiteboard to dive into reflection about specific issues and needs. As this filled up with words like homelessness, racial division, affluence and poverty, drug addiction, and many other expressions of brokenness, the question we asked was: “Where is our hope?” We found ourselves confessing to each other that […]

In-Between

I’ve been thinking of late about the in-betweens in our lives. The more I think about it the more I realize that our lives are littered with in-betweens. I have also begun to understand that there are different types of in-betweens, some more significant than others. Perhaps you have found yourself in some of these. Have you ever been in-between a job, a career or a relationship?  Perhaps you have found yourself traveling and were in-between cities or even continents. In-betweens bring with them a whole set of emotions. I have experienced great excitement, other times paralyzed by great fear. […]

Good News Wants to Know…

Looking back on 2019, what surprised you the most on a personal, national or international level? I found the passage of the Reproductive Health Act that was signed into law on January 22, 2019, in New York, to be one of the most troubling things I’ve seen all year. It expanded abortion for any reason through all nine months of pregnancy. Being a pro-life leader in the community, I see and hear a lot of dreadful things related to this issue. But, watching the governor of New York and pro-abortion supporters celebrate the passage of this law was beyond heartbreaking. […]

The Work of Christmas Begins in January

Last month, at the Church United Night of Worship and Celebration we heard story after story of uncommon generosity, church unity and collaborative efforts to spread faith, hope and love across South Florida. Pastors, ministry leaders and congregants came together, putting down their logo and embracing one another as fellow believers: praying together, serving together and giving together. If you missed the service, here are a few highlights of what God did.   Little House Coin Banks Collectively we raised money to bless local schools, nonprofits, ministries and local families. When Broward County government came to us, asking that we […]

Use Those “Time Eating” Christmas Gifts to Teach

We often receive questions asking about all forms of video games. Parents of the past would ask, “Don’t these video games become addictive and cause kids to waste many precious hours of time? We bought a Play Station for our kids for Christmas, but I’m considering taking it back. I’m also thinking we should not have these temptations in our home.” In today’s day and age not only is it Play Station, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, there is constant access to gaming on their phones as well.   Content It is not necessarily the electronic device that is the problem. There […]
