What is God?

One of the most popular search terms on Google is the question, “What is God?” This question shocks most Christians, who would have expected the question, “Who is God?” But Christians assume a personal God. Let’s back up for a moment to the very beginning and consider the Great Question from its inception.                                                                                                […]

We Have Lost Something Important!

Today’s family has lost something, and it’s a huge loss. Not to worry though. It can be found. The members of today’s typical family have lost their connection to each other. They have little in common other than the same address. Unfortunately, today’s family members have unplugged from each other. To meet a natural need to be plugged in somewhere, today’s children are plugging into the outside world and working desperately to stay connected. I don’t even think they know why. The answer is, however, it’s the only connection they have.  Texting, Instagram, Snapchat … have become a relationship substitute.  […]

Food For The Poor Donors Empower Women in Guatemala

The women of Sololá, Guatemala, are weaving a brighter future for themselves and their families, thanks to a generous Food For The Poor donor. In Sololá, a small community of 5,000 about 80 miles west of Guatemala City, slightly less than half the population lives in extreme poverty, earning an average of $1.25 or less per day. The indigenous women have a rich history of weaving, but the main barrier between a life of poverty and financial independence is access to a viable market. Now, through a partnership between Food For The Poor, Caritas and Mercado Global, these artisans are […]

HOPE South Florida and the Birthday Angels Bring Joy to Homeless Children

Hope South Florida celebrated the birthdays of the children of the families they serve in August. Each child with birthdays in June, July and August, along with their siblings and parents, were invited to Skyzone with a wonderful lunch, then back to HOPE for more fun, crafts, dancing, cake and presents. While the children and their families were at Skyzone, a group of Birthday Angels secretly went shopping after asking each child what they wanted as a present. The festivities culminated with each child receiving that one special gift they wanted. Jackeline “Jackie” Alers, Development Director of HOPE South Florida, […]

You Are Bountiful

In Christ, you have a grasp of the far-reaching implications of generosity. You know that you are never more like your Lord than when you give. “For God so loved the world that He gave…” (John 3:16). For you, faith, generosity and love are inseparable. Your faith is fully alive and fully energized by Spirit-led biblical generosity. While others think they own what they have, they can actually be owned by what they have. You are aware of the truth that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. You own nothing. God owns everything. You steward all that […]

An Inconvenient Truth

I have the privilege of working with couples during the worst and best of times. The spectrum is broad; the worst is when they come because their marriage is deeply troubled and the best is when they are preparing for wedded bliss, full of hope and wonder. Most recently, I met with a couple considering marriage. Both professed a personal relationship with Jesus, and both came from homes of divorce. They were considering living together to “be sure” they would stay together. I asked them if they regularly worshiped together. They said they occasionally attended church, but they weren’t involved. […]

Good News Wants to Know… What movie have you seen that most resembles your life ?

This month Good News Wants to Know… Have you ever watched a movie and thought you could play the lead part because it so much resembles your life? What was the movie? What was the role and why? In high school I thought I could play the role of Monica (Sanaa Lathan) from “Love and Basketball.” The movie was about two childhood friends who both aspired to be professional basketball players. I used to play basketball in high school/college, and just like Monica, I was fiercely competitive, still am, lol. But also like her, I have a softer side that […]

Shoves and Tugs

I recently read an interesting article in Forbes magazine regarding the unexpected retirement of Andrew Luck, the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. There were several items that stood out to me while reading this article. Andrew retired from a very promising career in football, leaving upwards of $500 million of unearned potential on the table because of both physical and emotional injuries. He said he lost his joy. The article went on to state that he had been sacked a league-high 156 times in the first 70 games of his career (ouch!) and that his offensive line had been mismanaged […]

Over 500 kids were served last month at the 4KIDS Back to School Bash! Hosted at Riverside Church in Broward and Journey Church in Palm Beach, 4KIDS foster and adoptive families had the opportunity to receive free backpacks for their children at this fun event. Collected by local businesses, churches, and individuals, the backpacks came in all sorts of styles and sizes- each one packed full of supplies. It was a fantastic Saturday morning full of shopping, face painting, balloon twisting, photo booths, and more!  The bash’s presenting sponsor was Office Depot, who began making ties with 4KIDS earlier this […]
