As they celebrate their third anniversary, the Downtown Harbor Church Board of Trustees recently announced a change in leadership roles. Adam Duckworth, a nationally acclaimed author on the subject of volunteering, will be stepping back from the role of Lead Communicator and will be transitioning into his new role as Volunteer Coordinator. L2 Alum Takes Third in Public Speaking World Championship

Anita Fain Taylor brings back to Broward County the third-place trophy of the 2018 Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking held in Chicago on Saturday, August 25.  To make it to the finals, Taylor defeated 30,000 competitors from across the globe including the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Middle East, Africa, India, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. RUF (Reformed University Fellowship) recently kicked off  its third year of ministry on the Florida Atlantic University campus in Boca Raton. Protesters Target Hope Women’s Centers

About 20 protesters gathered on the sidewalk outside Hope Women’s Centers’ Fort Lauderdale clinic for about two hours on August 22 chanting, “Keep abortion legal” and holding signs opposing what they call “fake clinic lies.” The protesters are part of a movement taking root nationwide called #ExposeFakeClinics, which calls women’s health centers aka crisis pregnancy centers “fake” because they provide free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds and pregnancy support, but do not provide abortions. Students Exploring Health Careers Visit Covenant Village

Covenant Village of Florida recently played host to a group of 25 high school students participating this summer in the AIM (Achieve in Medicine) High program at Nova Southeastern University. Those students are exploring careers in health professions. The visit to Covenant Village of Florida was an opportunity to spend time with residents and obtain a point of view regarding what life is like for older adults. Cross International Provides Rapid-Response Relief To Volcano Survivors

 Cross International in partnership with its sister relief agency Cross Catholic Outreach, provided immediate aid in response to the devastation caused by the sudden eruption of Guatemala’s Fuego Volcano. The volcano spewed a river of red-hot lava and pushed thick clouds of smoke nearly six miles into the air, and it continues to pose a risk to nearby villages. The initial impact of the disaster was staggering. Approximately 3,000 people were evacuated and 99 confirmed dead (that number is expected to rise, officials fear, perhaps reaching hundreds).
