America’s Gospel Dance Championship Celebrates the Arts

The fine arts have for years provided artists with critical thinking skills and creative strategies, which are lifelong skills that can be applied in problem solving and other situations.  Enjoyed by many people, the arts are sometimes used to send strong messages and to express very deep thoughts often incomprehensible to its viewers. It’s used in many arenas as a tool to make masses of people more aware and often influences how one perceives things. Through visualization, art can clearly state the truth, replay history or be solely about creating or capturing beauty.  Art helps people visualize a story that […]

Surfers For Autism Raises Awareness

In 2008, on a sandy beach in Deerfield, a handful of surfers congregated with one goal in mind, to raise awareness for autism and give kids with autism a fun experience. Starting with 40 surfers and raising $10,000 for autism charities in their inaugural year, it has grown into a highly anticipated annual festival of concerts, surfing, food trucks and paddle boarding. The 9th Annual South Florida Surfers For Autism Beach Festival will be held April 1 – 3 at Deerfield Beach. Bearing Witness: Exposing the Reality of Modern Day Genocide

It was not so long ago that six million Jews perished in the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazi regime. Many stayed quiet for so long — until it was too late. Jewish people lost entire families — mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. Entire communities were wiped out. And since that great atrocity, the world has been educated on the reality of evil and mass murder. It is for this reason that the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. continues to shout, “Never again!” and has not only taken on the great task of educating the […]

New Churches Embrace Downtown Fort Lauderdale

Our world is changing. The way people live, work, play, and worship is changing. For the first time in history, the world as we know it is 50 percent urban. An estimated 5 million new people a month move to a city. Some have projected that by 2050, 75 percent of the world’s population will live in a city. While the implications of our changing landscape are vast, one thing is clear: God seems to be moving the world towards cities. Could it be so they can hear the gospel?According to the church planting team at Redeemer City-to-City, a leadership […]

Prepare for the Election: Primary, Caucus, Open and Closed

There has been much in the news lately about the Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire Primary. These two states kick off the race for delegates to the Republican and Democratic conventions, but they have quite different means of selecting their delegates to the national conventions. Why the difference? Different states choose the means to nominate their delegates: some choose to hold a primary, where a simple vote through the whole state is taken to nominate delegates, others choose to hold a caucus, where delegates are selected by a system of local gatherings. Though the caucus was once the means […]

Open Carry: A Bad Idea for Florida

Sheriff Scott Israel   With more than 350 mass shootings in the United States in 2015, gun violence weighs heavily in everyone’s thoughts.  Having more guns brandished openly on our streets is not the answer, yet that is exactly what will happen if a very dangerous bill passes in Tallahassee this year. The “open carry” bill would further weaken Florida’s already permissive gun laws by allowing concealed weapon permit holders to carry their guns openly and visibly virtually anywhere.  This “Wild West” open carry proposal would make Florida a more dangerous and menacing place, not a safer place.  That is […]

Is the Bible Like Asbestos in the Public School?

Jerry Newcombe Good News   It is amazing that people today want to treat anything from the Bible as if it’s asbestos (to borrow a line from Christian attorney Jordan Lorence) if it somehow shows up in a public school. Historically, it was the push to teach the Bible that gave birth to education for the masses in the first place. This was the forerunner to the public school. How ironic. A seemingly minor conflict in a small Texas public high school is symptomatic of a major conflict in society at large. Specifically, can cheerleaders in a public school adorn […]
