Making a Difference for Life

Last September Denise sat in an abortion clinic on Oakland Park Boulevard. Financial pressure and embarrassment took her there.  “I was determined. I mean, I don’t believe in abortion. But I was facing a situation.” So she told herself, “Okay, I’m going to get this done.” Surrounded by the clinic’s bare walls on a Saturday morning, she filled out paperwork and grew anxious. “I saw my life flash before me.” She walked out to the parking lot and spotted four people talking with the friend who brought her. “And I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me? Right now?’”They told Denise they were […]

Ron Blue Offers Advice on Faith and Finances

Born shortly after Pearl Harbor, Ron Blue, director of Kingdom Advisors, admits he’s witnessed a great deal of economic fluctuation throughout history from the Korean War to the Cuban Missile Crisis, Watergate to the inflation of the 80’s, 9/11 and the Iraq War followed by recession. Speaking at a Lifework Leadership class last month, Blue said that for many, wages don’t keep up with lifestyles as there is a desire for keeping up with the Joneses, and that creates financial pressure. However there are a few key things he said he’s learned over the years.   First, economic uncertainty is […]

Religious Freedom Day Affirms Freedom of Worship

As in years past, the White House is expected to proclaim January 16 as Freedom of Religion Day. The day is the anniversary of the passage, in 1786, of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom. Regardless of what is said, most Christians believe there has been an erosion of their rights for some time. One of the biggest threats has been Obamacare, which threatened to violate the rights of at least two family-owned businesses, Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties. The Alliance Defending Freedom saw the threat and successfully defended the case at the Supreme Court for the two businesses. […]

Is Cruz Like Goldwater or Reagan?

Ted Cruz is beginning to surge significantly in the polls in Iowa. Surely the evangelicals in Iowa are the key factor. Already, some of the political pundits are writing him off, likening him to Barry Goldwater, the libertarian-leaning firebrand, who was soundly defeated by Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Goldwater lost by a landslide. But, by the same token, Ronald Reagan won by landslides in 1980 and in 1984. And Reagan was perhaps more conservative than Goldwater. The question many are asking about Ted Cruz and his conservative values is: Will he be the new Goldwater or the new Reagan? Reagan […]

Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. … God has put each part just where he wants it…. This makes for harmony among […]

‘Tis the Season for…Christmas Lights

The history of electric Christmas lights is fascinating in itself. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the original light bulb, used the Christmas season to promote electric lights for the trees. In earlier days, people would use candles to light the trees and would stand by with a bucket of water and a bucket of sand to put any fire out. The candles would only be lit for a few minutes at a time, and adults watched carefully for any sparks coming from the branches. Around the turn of the century, the candles were placed in glass balls or small lanterns. […]
