Supreme Court Approves Same-Sex Marriage

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide on June 26 in a sweeping, moralizing opinion written by Justice Anthony Kennedy. He delivered the ruling softly and without much expression, but outside the courtroom, huge crowds swarmed the Supreme Court plaza in celebration, singing the national anthem. As anticipated since the high court first took up the case, the ruling was 5-4, with Kennedy joining the court’s liberals: Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. The dissenters—Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito—each penned separate dissents, an expression of profound […]

What Good Is the Right of Free Speech If You Can’t Exercise It?

By now, gallons of ink have been spilled on the recent meeting (over the May 2-3 weekend) in the Dallas area where the contest was held on who could draw the best picture of Mohammed. Anti-jihadist blogger Pamela Geller of New York organized the contest. Two American jihadists drove hundreds of miles to kill the “infidels” and were killed in the process. Franklin Graham remarked that the recent Garland conclave was misguided. As a Christian, he says we shouldn’t insult anybody’s religion. Like me, he believes the ultimate answer to the radical Islam issue is the gospel of Jesus Christ, […]

Operation Lift Hope is Changing the Homeless Landscape

There is a movement afoot, barely noticed by the community at large, that has been slowly growing momentum over the last few years. This movement represents a monumental change in the entire landscape of services for those who experience homelessness. It is an entire paradigm shift in how we, collectively, are working to end homelessness. Industry experts call this shift a Housing First model, where the primary goal is to quickly identify, assess, and move people experiencing homelessness into permanent housing and then provide services as needed. It is a two-step model of crisis response and rapid re-housing. Locally, as […]
