U.N. will not teach students Holocaust

The United Nations’ refugee agency for Palestinians does not intend to include the Holocaust in the curriculum at schools it runs in the Gaza Strip, a U.N. spokesman said following criticism by Hamas about the purported plan. While Hamas’ objections to including information on the Holocaust in school lesson plans was not particularly surprising, some Jewish organizations have taken issue with the U.N. for apparently backtracking in the face of the criticism from the terrorist group that rules Gaza. The U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), operates more than 600 schools in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Syria, Jordan […]

Iron Men

Local Christian leaders meet to sharpen one another The men’s Life of Iron Sharpens Iron started out in David and Karen Woods’ kitchen in 1995. David and his long-time friend Kevin Bowser wanted to bring some muchneeded organization to their church board in Washington, D.C. But there was no local support to do this. Pastors of large churches are able to participate in seminars and workshops on the national scene, they noted, but what about the leaders of smaller churches? That is where Iron Sharpens Iron comes in. The Iron Sharpens Iron Conference Network they started now travels across the […]

What has washing someone’s car got to do with the gospel?

Committed to bringing the Christian message to young people to his hometown of Manchester, England, Andy Hawthorne was shocked when a missions partner told him he shouldn’t just preach the gospel but also engage in community projects. It worked. The Message Trust has been recognized internationally as bringing hope and change to the roughest, poorest neighborhoods of Manchester. And it got him thinking: What, exactly, should the priority of the church be? Should it be the lamp on a stand–bold, unashamed gospel proclamation to as many as possible? Or should it be more salt and yeast–serving and blessing the vulnerable […]

A little rebellion now & then is good

“I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. … It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government.”–Thomas Jefferson to James Madison (Jan. 30, 1787). Here’s a breaking News alert for all Americans: if you take part in protest rallies, voice your discontent through picket signs or disrupt events with yelling or intermittent shouts, then you are likely a right-wing extremist or a member of an angry mob, and you must be silenced. At least that’s the chilling message coming […]

The widow of a Christian who was martyred by Muslims in the Gaza Strip prays for revenge, but not the usual kind, her friend Hanna Massad told participants at the New Baptist Covenant regional meeting in Oklahoma. The Islamic extremist group al Shabaab, which has ties to al-Qaida, “kidnapped and eventually beheaded the Christians after they refused to renounce their faith,” ICC reported Aug. 11. According to the ICC report: “On Aug. 4, a junior [al Shabaab] militant notified all the families of the victims that the four Christians had been beheaded for apostasy. He described the Christians as promoters of ‘fitna,’ […]
