May Day 2010: A cry to God for our nation

Beginning at 6:10 a.m. on Saturday, May 1st, “May Day” will be in full swing. Christians from across the United States will be gathering in front of Washington’s Lincoln Memorial, joining hand in hand with other Christian and Jewish leaders. The goal of May Day? To come together, pray and seek the face of God; to repent, with a desire to turn away from our wicked ways and help save this nation. Denominational boundaries will be bridged during this event, as various pro-family leaders come together to celebrate and pray, including Dr. James Dobson, President of the American Family Association, […]

Parents tackle the world of technology

The world of technology has taken many parents by surprise as children have become savvier and technology has become more sophisticated. Parents are finding themselves blindsided when it comes to addressing and confronting tough issues in their children’s lives.  Sexually saturated images are filling children’s minds through video games, cell phones and computer websites.  These images are bombarding our children and are coming into their lives as fast as the speed of light.   There are more than 244 million websites, and child pornography is a $13-15 billion business.  Teenage girls are now becoming the fastest growing segment of pornography users.  […]

The true story of a forgiving heart

A child on the brink of being aborted; a priest that lent a helping hand. The birth and life story of Juda Myers should be a reminder to all that a message of hope can truly outshine any tragedy.  Conceived in 1956 from a horrific act of rape on her mother, Ann, when she walked home alone after watching the Ten Commandments at a local theater, Juda lay in her mother’s womb, forming into the amazing woman she is today, as those closest to her mother pressed on for an abortion to take place. But abortion was never a thought […]

What America needs: A bumper crop of young entrepreneurs

Compared to prior recessions, something is definitely different this time. If you’ve lost your job, it is harder than ever to replace it. The New York Times reports that 6.3 million Americans have been unemployed for six months or longer, more than double the next-worst recessive period of the early 1980s. Tighter credit, outsourcing, globalization, and productivity-enhancing technologies have played a role–and each is here to stay. As a result, many older employees are delaying retirement, making it increasingly difficult for recent graduates to enter the workforce. Voices across the political spectrum agree that America desperately needs private sector job […]

Food For The Poor organizes releases

As a child cries from hunger, desperate parents painfully search for food to save their children from death. If caught stealing a chicken to feed their family, parents in developing countries such as Haiti will be imprisoned, without first appearing before a judge or receiving a prison sentence. Sometimes by the time they are tried, they have spent years longer in jail than their prison sentence requires. Food For The Poor will help release approximately 73 nonviolent offenders in developing countries in time to spend Holy Week with their families. The prisoners were incarcerated due to their inability to pay […]

We are all tools in the hands of God

There is a most curious incident recorded in the seventh chapter of Mark’s gospel. Jesus, we are told, “left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. There some people brought to Him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Him to place His hand on the man” (7:31-32, NIV). Mark then records that “with a deep sigh” Jesus healed the man’s affliction and “commanded them not to tell anyone” (vs. 33-36a). Not heeding Jesus’ command, we discover that the more Jesus […]

Airport body scanners violate

A group of Muslim scholars says it supports airline safety, but it is “deeply concerned” about the use of airport scanners that show nude images of the human body. “The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) emphasizes that a general and public use of such scanners is against the teachings of Islam, natural law and all religions and cultures that stand for decency and modesty,” the group said in a Feb. 10 statement posted at Islam Online. “It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” the FCNA explained. Americans to pay for abortions

When the House passed the historic Senate version of health care reform, it opened the door for the federal government to pay for more abortions than at any time in history. Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., who had led the pro-life opposition, changed his vote after President Obama promised to sign an executive order said to place certain limits on abortion funding. Nonetheless, it is the first time in more than 30 years that the government has departed from its longstanding policy of not using federal dollars to directly pay for abortions. The bill allows for taxpayer funding of abortion, calls […]

Pro-family leaders react to healthcare reform

Rep. John Kline, R-Minn. With these votes, Congress has failed its most fundamental responsibility of representing the American people. National Right to Life Committee The executive order promised by President Obama was issued for political effect. It changes nothing. It does not correct any of the serious pro-abortion provisions in the bill.Concerned Women for America Mr. Stupak apparently talked himself into believing that a president can change the law by the use of executive orders. A president does not have that authority. Gary Bauer, American Values Yesterday, Stupak sold out his pro-life values for an executive order from the most […]

The future of Christian Speculative Fiction

In the past few years, millions have flocked to movie theaters and book stores, hoping to get their fix of storylines filled with vampires, time travel, dragons, and other fantasy-laden and science fiction-charged scenarios. For Christians, however, who are interested and on the hunt for enjoyable speculative fiction, this can be a daunting task. Christian speculative fiction, an umbrella term that covers anything related to science fiction, end times, post-apocalyptic, super-hero, vampires and time travel, written from a Christian perspective, has not been well-received over the years by many Christian publishers. Most publishers have chosen to play it safe, sticking […]
