Banyan Air Service Recognized by the City of Fort Lauderdale

Recently Banyan Air Service was honored by the City of Fort Lauderdale with a proclamation recognizing Banyan’s 40th anniversary at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. The proclamation was signed by Mayor Dean J. Trantalis and read by Commissioner Heather Moraitis during the City Commission regular meeting held at City Hall on Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. The proclamation highlighted some of the achievements and recognitions of Banyan during the last 40 years and also mentioned Banyan’s commitment to rebuilding a hospital and nursing school in a small village of Egbe in rural Nigeria, West Africa where Don Campion was born and […]

4KIDS South Florida Orphans Classic & Auction Raises $150,000

On October 14, 4KIDS celebrated ten years of the South Florida Orphans Classic & Auction. More than 100 golfers enjoyed a beautiful morning out on the course at Coral Ridge Country Club. In the afternoon, they took part in a lively round of bidding on auction items, all benefiting 4KIDS. Each foursome that participated in the tournament represented different business partners that generously gave towards the event. Between the sponsorships, auction, and additional donations, the players raised over $150,000 for kids in our community! One of the many business partners that participated in the Orphans Classic was Lime Fresh Mexican […]

The Credibility of Christianity

My intent in writing this monthly article is to provide you with a reasonable response to the many objections others throw up as reasons for rejecting the Christian faith. This, of course, comes under the heading of Christian apologetics (using evidence and reasons to express why someone should believe the truth claims of Christianity), which is rooted in 1 Peter 3:15 — “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” This month I would like to share a few […]

This Calling It A Day For Christians

This Calling It A Day For Christians This Calling for TGIF. Everybody’s working for the weekend. If you really loved what you do, it won’t feel like work. Ever hear these words or utter them yourself? Is there anything wrong with them?  A very common cultural view of work is that our work is really a means to end.  The modern view is that you work to make enough money so you don’t have to work. It echoes a common religious view of work, which says that you work to make enough money so you can give it to the […]

Good News Wants to Know… What biblical character do you personally associate yourself with or relate to and why?

What biblical character do you personally associate yourself with or relate to and why? Nehemiah is my guy. The way he let a God-given burden lead to a life-long calling is an ongoing inspiration to me. He led with his life. He helped people who were stuck, get unstuck. He did this not just by rebuilding a wall, but by rebuilding a culture. It took courage, vision, tenacity, humility and sacrifice to give his life to God’s work — and at the end of it all, I hope to say with Nehemiah — “God and His People are worth it!” […]

What is Religion?

The word “religion” is derived from Latin and means “to tie or to bind together.”  In popular usage religion means the web of beliefs that inform how a worshiper understands God. Religion “ties together” how we think about God and how we behave as a consequence. Last month we asked the question, “What is God?”  We asked the most fundamental questions about God.  We asked these questions in a search to identify the most basic theology.  We concluded that the best conjunction of reason and revelation finds expression in the word to Moses on Sinai, “I Am that I Am” […]

Worshipful

There is a place where you can go-a great expansive, yet intimate “room.” Expectantly and cautiously climbing the stairs upward through an open door, one can enter an ongoing celebration. At the epicenter of all things is a throne. From that throne emanates flashes of lightning and peals of thunder. The color is so very brilliant and intense, but not as beautiful as He on the throne. The area around the throne cannot contain the visual splendor. The colors and brilliance are reflected as in a failed attempt to diminish their intensity. There before the throne is sea of glass, […]

The Sick Receive Healing in Naples

Everyone knows Naples is a step up. A quiet town for the wealthy and retired. A beautiful getaway with colorful landscapes and well-kept streets. But Naples has a secret trend developing. One that has been kept quiet until now. Nestled near the Coastland Mall off 10th Street sits an oasis. A place where love reigns supreme and judgement is a pariah. Naples has a healing church. Do you know the greatest thing about this healing church? The regulars that attend there are not ill, they simply want God – and with God comes healing.  Oasis Naples Church is the oldest […]

Cohabitation Versus Marriage

Last month we explored the trend of Christian couples living together from a faith perspective.  We know what Jesus says about premarital sex…. it’s a big no; it’s a sin. The assumption is if you’re living together, you’re having sex. Let’s explore what the secular, academic communities research reveals versus what we choose or want to believe because it’s convenient and culturally accepted.  Cohabitation has been practiced for generations but for a variety of reasons. In colonial days ministers and officiates were less available, so couples formed homes and families without a legal declaration. This was the birth of common […]

How To Use Storms For Good…

Are storms good for anything? Jesus sure thought they were. On more than one occasion He sent his Disciples directly into a storm. Jesus used storms as great learning tools, and as parents, we can certainly follow His example. Since storms are unavoidable, it is important for parents to take advantage of the training opportunities that come with storms. How Jesus uses storms for good On one occasion Jesus went with His disciples into a storm (Mark 4). When the storm began to sink the boat, the Disciples went to the front and woke Jesus up from a nap.  “Don’t […]
